I woke up with a fright, I looked at the clock, 6.00am another nightmare this was not the first time I have had this dream, I have had it six times in a row now every time I keep waking up at 6.00am I always see a figure flash past Kuirau Park in the dead of night and when ever, it goes past the lamppost the light turns a dark creepy blue. Then with a quick glance I see it rapidly move towards a house, it slowly opens the window and creeps through the bedroom and all I can hear is a chilling sound like it’s sucking the life out of you. It goes quiet and the room lights up I woke up gasping for air I took a deep breath, I then ran down stairs to tell every one about my nightmare, but it seams like no one was listening. Sometimes I feel like I am so invisible. I ran up stairs and started crying mum shouted that every one needs to be ready in 10min so I ran downstairs to get my lunch, which was all packed, for our big field trip with the class to the Rotorua Museum. After I packed my lunch I met up with my best friend Paige. Paige has been my friend for as long as I can remember; she had shimmering, crystal blue eyes that matched with her silky waved hair that was the colour of mouth watering white chocolate. As we walked along the street we met up with our other friends from school…Suddenly I froze with fear. . . I felt like I had been here before, I was fainting, my eyes started to roll back in to my head, my brain ached with fear, my stomach was full of butterflies. My heart started pounding. It was pounding so hard I thought it was going to come out of my throat. I opened my eyes Am I awake? No I am asleep? I slowly turned my head but already knew what I was going to see. There stood the house with the strange figure. I was standing in my nightmare. The shrieking sound started it was much louder then I remembered. The nightmare has fast forward, I can see the figure enter the dark bedroom, as I watch the house closely a figure exits. It is a small girl. Her hair is as sharp as blades. She had eyes like black beads, they were lifeless, and her face was as pale as snow. She must have felt me steering she turned and looked straight into my eyes, I shivered with fear. I turned and tried to walk away but she pulled me back with force. I turned and looked again into her eyes. I saw my reflection and a small shimmering blue light, dancing and twirling behind me. I looked behind but there was no sign of the twirling light. I looked back into her eyes the blue light was still there. The strange girl put her hand on my shoulder. The moment she touched me my arm went dead, my head whirled and I fell to the ground. I opened my eyes am I awake or was I asleep? I looked up, I was awake there were my friends surrounding me.
“Are you alright London?” said Paige
“Yeah, I mumbled, what just happened?” I said
“Well, you just froze and then fainted when you looked at the house over there” exclaimed my friend.
“Oh yeah, did you see that girl with the lifeless eyes?”
“Are you sure you are alright London?” Paige said in a concerned voice.
“You can call your mum from my phone if you like”
“Nah, she is at work. Besides I feel better anyway. Let’s carry on and get to the Museum”
When we reached the Government Gardens the class had already gone into the museum. We hurried inside the entrance.
“Quick London there is our class,” said Paige.
I looked over to see Miss Holgard she didn’t look very happy in fact her face had a look of concern. Miss Holgard was telling the class that there had been an unfortunate accident involving a little girl at the museum this week. There was an awkward silence. Miss Holgard asked if we still wanted to carry on with the visit and the majority of the class put their hand up. We all split up into pairs; of course Paige and I were together then the class set off to tour the museum. Before we left Paige and I asked Miss Holgard about the accident. She said all she knew was that it happened at 6.00am, 6 days ago and a little girl with beady eyes, pale skin and blade straight hair was killed. I was shocked. Paige and I left to tour the museum and I started to tell Paige about my nightmare.
It was 2:30 now, Paige and I got to leave early because we had finished all of our activities. We started to walk back to my place, as we were walking I saw the house, I froze, but this time I didn’t faint. “London, London are you ok? You were about to faint again” Paige said worriedly. “What, Oh yeah, I‘m ok There is that house, the one I told you about. Something went into it. I think it was the little girl I saw in my dream.” I said very frightened.
“But how can it be that little girl if Miss Holgard said she is dead” Paige said with confusion.
“Well there can be only one reasonable answer, I’ve been thinking about this all day, I think there is a shape shifter. I read a book the other day, it was called The signs of Shape Shifters, it told me all about the signs and all the signs seem to add up” I said frightened to death.
“Shall we go and investigate?” said Paige excitedly “Please, please, please London can we go? “
“Ok” I replied sounding not sure.
As we walked into the house we heard a sound, it gave not just me but Paige the chills. We walked towards a door, we were sure it was this door because as we walked closer the sound became louder. Before opening it, I peeped through the key hole. I knew it! I was right, there is a shape shifter and it is sucking the life out of an old lady. She was in shock, paralysed even.
Oh my gosh! I have to help her, what am I going to do? I thought to myself. I was feeling scared but I tried to be brave for me and Paige. I turned to Paige and told her what I thought we should do. She would keep watch through the keyhole while I quickly ran outside to get help. She agreed so I turned to run. I tripped over my own two feet and hit a table and knocked a vase over, it smashed on the ground. The shape shifter heard the vase smash and shot out of the bedroom door. I scurried quickly behind the couch but Paige wasn’t fast enough. It went straight for her, making that screeching sound I had heard many times before. I knew right now this would be the last time I would hear this sound again. As it slowly but painfully drained Paige’s life from her, I wanted to burst into tears, my heart was once again pounding I just wanted to go home and wish I never had had this dream. I took a deep breath and stopped feeling sorry for myself. I looked around for something to help Paige with.
What was that paragraph I read in that book about shape shifters? As I panicked. That’s right! They are afraid of their own reflections because they think their reflections are other shape shifters. I tried my hardest to be brave. I could hear Paige trying to scream.
“Somebody help me” she cried desperately.
I looked and looked to see if I could find a mirror. Jackpot! Found one, it was only a couple of foot steps away a hand mirror on the coffee table. I quickly but quietly crawled to get it, I then made a lot of noise so the shape shifter could hear me. It turned and looked at me I put the mirror in front of it. The shape shifter fell to the ground. I grabbed Paige and squeezed her, lucky for me, she was alright. We watched the souls float out of the shape shifters heart and disappeared into midair. The shape shifter slowly faded away until there was nothing left of it and that was the last time I had that nightmare.
